Haoyu Yue joined the Urban Infrastructure Lab in 2021 and is currently a second-year Ph.D. student at the Urban Design & Planning Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program at the University of Washington, advised by Prof. Jan Whittington and Prof. Qing Shen. Before joining the Ph.D. program, he received a master’s degree in urban planning focusing on urban informatics at UW and a bachelor’s degree in planning from China. In 2024, he serves as the Student Representative on the Steering Committee of the Ph.D. Program. Also, he is a part of UW Solar, an interdisciplinary solar project organization at the university. He was selected as a Microsoft Research AI & Society Fellow. He is interested in physical, cultural, and institutional spaces within cities and his current research interests are in the ethical discussions about AI applications in urban planning, especially in the era of climate change. He conducts theoretical and empirical work on energy transition, infrastructure planning, climate change impact, and artificial intelligence as well as developing tools to assist cities in making climate-related decisions. In addition, he always has a passion for all city space and phenomena happening within urban scopes and he likes many city simulation games, such as Cities Skyline and SimCity.
